  8. How do I protect my logo as a trademark?
There are several options when it comes to protecting your logo. Under Common law rights all you have to do to establish your rights in a mark is to begin using it to identify your products or services. It is free and you don’t have to register it; simply attach your mark to your products and services and you have the right to defend it in court. You can gain a little more protection by registering your mark with the state or states in which you are doing business. The cost and specific laws vary from state to state. A Federal Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office serves as presumed notice of first use, and can make your mark virtually incontestable after five years although it can be complicated and expensive process. Only federally-registered marks may use the ®. Consult a trademark lawyer or specialist for more information.

  10. Why shouldn’t I use “clip art” for my logo?
While clip art has its place in desktop publishing and various newsletters, steer clear of the clip art when it comes to your brand identity. Poorly thought out brand identity and unprofessional accompanying design could actually do more harm to your company’s image than none at all. A high-quality logo will increase exposure, give competitive differentiation, and influence positive reception by audiences and markets. Your business deserves a customized professional logo.
